A Speedway Match Without a Mixer? How One Touch Panel and a Scheduler Replaced the Console at the “Swallows” Stadium
SoundCoreHero · Case studies · Unia Tarnów

Unia Tarnów Stadium, known as the “Swallows’ Nest,” is a venue with exceptional acoustic dynamics. Speedway events are not just the roar of engines—they are fully orchestrated events where the announcer, music, and safety messages must synchronize within fractions of a second.
During the sound system modernization, the investor faced two key challenges: optimizing the budget by reusing part of the existing infrastructure and simplifying operation as much as possible for the operator, who works under intense time pressure during matches. The solution was SoundCoreHero—a platform serving simultaneously as a player, digital mixer, matrix, and DSP processor.

Challenges
Event Dynamics and Budget Compromise
The specifics of a speedway match require immediate reactions from the operator: triggering jingles after races, controlling background music, and muting audio instantly when the announcer or referee speaks from the pit area. Traditional approaches would require a complex audio console with numerous peripheral devices, increasing system complexity and risk of errors.
Another challenge was the stadium’s infrastructure. The investor aimed to introduce digital audio distribution (Dante) for the Main Stand while retaining functional analog amplifiers for older stadium sections.
Solution
Digital-Analog Hybrid
The SoundCoreHero Professional 16 system was implemented as the central hub of the venue, integrating two technological worlds:
New Technology
Key zones in the Main Stand are served by modern four-channel digital amplifiers operating on the Dante network. Wide coverage speakers ensure high speech intelligibility despite extreme engine noise.
Second Life for Existing Equipment
100 V analog amplifiers serving the First and Second Curves were integrated into the digital audio network via dedicated interfaces. This allowed the entire stadium to function as a single logical system, even though devices from different technological eras operate “under the hood.”
Unique Innovation
Eliminating the Physical Mixer
What sets the Tarnów implementation apart is the complete elimination of the traditional mixing console. The operator’s station was reduced to a single wired 15.6″ touch panel.
Interface Optimized for Matches
The operator sees only the essential controls: zone volume faders (Main Stand, Paddock, Guests), match jingles buttons, and microphone statuses.
Automation and Priorities (Ducking)
SoundCoreHero acts as a technical operator during critical moments. The announcer’s voice automatically and smoothly reduces background music, and safety microphones have the highest priority—the system instantly mutes all other sources.

DSP Precision and Zoning
The built-in DSP processor enabled precise system adjustment to the stadium’s geometry:
Time Delays
The covered section of the Main Stand (upper rows) required additional amplification. Accurate time delays for speaker lines under the roof prevented echoes and maintained message coherence.
Zone Division
Five independent audio zones were defined: Main Stand, First Curve, Second Curve, Visiting Fans (with dedicated safety announcements), and Paddock.
Scheduler
No More Being a “Slave to the Clock”
Planning Instead of Waiting
The match scenario can be pre-programmed. If the match starts at 16:00, the system automatically plays background music and activates entry zones from 14:00—without the operator being present.
Time Recovery
The sound engineer no longer needs to arrive hours early just to start the system. They can come directly for the briefing and live operation.
Automatic Shutdown
After the match, SoundCoreHero automatically mutes music and powers down zones at the scheduled time, taking responsibility for the system’s operation off the human operator.
Results
- Operational Comfort – The operator gained full time flexibility thanks to automation of pre- and post-match hours.
- Ease of Use – The touch panel replaced the classic console, minimizing the risk of errors.
- Cost Optimization – Hybrid Dante and 100 V integration allowed modernization without replacing the entire infrastructure.
Safety – Automatic microphone priorities ensure critical messages are heard regardless of crowd noise.
